History of OSU-Mansfield Campus

From 1958 to 1964, the purchase of land, raising of monetary funds, AND establishment of the Mansfield University Foundation for scholarships and special projects took place. Ovalwood Hall was the first building built on campus and opened in 1966. The bricks used to construct all of the buildings on campus come from Richland Shale Brick Company. Their founder, John B. Conard, grandson of John Conard, Sr., first student class at The Ohio State University in 1873, already had the connection with Ohio State due to his grandfather; however, he, and his wife Pearl, turned their attention to the upcoming Mansfield campus, and helped build it ground up. Ovalwood, Eisenhower Center, Conard Hall, and the Campus Recreation Center were all constructed between 1966-1977. The years that followed, John and Pearl Conard continued their support for OSU-Mansfield. With the help of their foundation, Conard Learning Center and Riedl Hall were constructed in the late 1990s, giving the campus new life as the next generation walked through the doors.
